Welcome to CAIRNS

The CAIRNS service will be temporarilty unavailable from 9 May 2011 for essential system maintenance.

CAIRNS is the Co-operative Information Retrieval Network for Scotland. It provides descriptions of information resources of all kinds held in libraries in Scotland, and online resources of interest to Scotland and its people. You can find items by searching many library catalogues in one go.

Simple search

Search term

Enter a search term, then

The easiest way of searching for items in the collections described by the CAIRNS catalogues is to search for a title keyword in the 42 available catalogues. All you have to do is:
enter the keyword in the Search term box, and click the Search button.

You may have to wait for a few minutes before seeing the results of your search because every available catalogue will be searched. You may not find all items relevant to your needs because the keyword is only searched in the title.

Use the Advanced option to improve the speed and precision of your search by specifying which catalogues to search and where to look for the keyword, such as item author and subject.
