Search for words in the names of persons and organizations administering information services in Scotland

You can use this page to identify persons and organizations who administer Scottish information services by searching for a specific word, part-word or phrase in their names.

Names are searched in their standard (AACR2) form.

For persons, this means surnames first, then forenames, separated by the standard comma-space punctuation; for example: Burns, Mary.

For organizations, this means the unique name, or principal name, followed by the names of departments and other sub-units in descending order of hierarchy.

Enter the specific word or phrase in the box labelled Search term.

You can enter any combination of characters, numbers, punctuation and spaces for your search. Persons and organizations with names containing the search term will be found, whether the term occurs at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of the name. Only exact matches are made; punctuation and spacing is not ignored. A search term containing a space is treated as a phrase, and only names containing the "word"(s) in the same order and adjacency will be found.

You can force a search to match the name from the beginning of its AACR2 form by entering an * (asterisk) after the term.

This is particularly useful for identifying all persons with the surnames beginning with your search term.

If you have entered a search term and wish to amend it before starting the search, then you can click the Clear button to erase the contents of the Search term box so you can start again. You can also amend the search term using the cursor, backspace and delete keys.

When you have entered your search term, click the Show button to start the search.
